I LOVE Duct tape!!!

This is the original chair cushion. It is a velveteen goldish color. I found this set of 4 chairs @ the thrift store for about $20, for all of them. They were originally a yellowish color. I painted them white a few years ago. I cleaned them up again today.
This was the denim fabric I had recovered them w/ the first time, when I painted them white. It gave a bit of a 'country' look. As you can see the denim is now dirty & stained.
Remove the cushion from the chair by unscrewing it from the bottom. I cut the fabric around the cushion, being sure to leave enough extra to overlap the bottom.
Initially, I used a staple gun to recover the cushion. I turn the cushion upside down, facing the wrong side of the fabric & then staple it around the edges of the under side. Be sure it is not too loose by attaching the 4 sides first & then adjusting for the corners.
However, the box of staples that I had were NOT the correct size for the staple gun I had. But the ingenius crafter that I am---I pulled out the giant roll of duct tape I had & used that instead.

VOILA! Lovely new cushioned dining chair. :o)

Birthday Gift

I made this tiered, halter shirt & matching head band Saturday, for a birthday gift. I made it the morning before the party. One side of the bottom of the shirt ended up slightly longer. You can't really tell when you look @ it but it showed up in a different picture I took.

I was in a bit of a rush & my littles kept pushing me to hurry so we go go to the party (since they could see the festivities happening right over the back yard fence. lol)

I fixed it later. The birthday girl lives right next door so I asked for it back today, her mother laughed @ me about it since no one else noticed. ;o)

It wasn't too hard to fix...only took me 2 tries to figure it out.

The little girl is older than L so I wasn't quite sure of the fit, but she is tiny...I made it slighlty loose on L & figured that would be ok. I also sewed elastic in the back for extra measure.

I initially started using this fabric to create a skirt for myself but it ended up being WAY too long & I am not sure if it would be way too bright for a grown woman to wear but in my mind it looks like it would make a cute, summery tiered skirt. lol

Finally FInished

I have had this fabric for a few months. On Mother's Day, I treated myself to a guilt free day of sewing & made the dress.
The ties are supposed to tie @ the shoulders except I made them too far over, so instead, I tie them criss-cross across the back & it works. I trimmed the seams w/ orange ribbon, which I think really adds 'something' to it.

The back buttons closed w/ 4 buttons, graduating in size, in each of the primary colors, orange, yellow, lime & fuschia. Good thing you can't see the button holes because they are atrocious!

I wasn't too sure about the striped pants, I was afraid they would look like clown pants, which I think they probably do if they are worn by themselves. But they turned out to be a great compliment to the dress, which was my original plan.

I can't seem to work elastic well, so I made the pants drawstings. I made the ties out of the polka dot fabric, made a button hole on each side & strung the ties through, so that it ties on each side.

The first day she wore it.....some brat left chocolate syrup smeared on a bench & it got on her dress. Good thing it is on the back, it didn't come out either w/ shout. eerrgghh! Luckily it is on the back & very light stain so you can't see the spots, but it is disappointing.

This is my proudest, most favorite project to date. I have plenty of fabric left over so I hope to make a hair band, & @ least a shirt for some mix-n-match outfits. I think a bright orange ponsho woul dbe nice to go w/ as well. I cna't decide if I should make it orange only, or orange w/ fuschia ruffle or incorporate the yellow & lime as well. It might be color over-load if I use ALL the colors. lol :o)
