Poncho Crazy!!!!

This is the other poncho that I made for/sold to a friend.
I'm kinda sad to see it go...it's SO cute! It came out better than I expected, I thought someone else might like it but I didn't think I would like it. LOL {I'm not normally a big fan of purple or lavender}
I am going to add a Hello Kitty bead to the tie to cuten it up a wee bit more. It could fit an adult, teenager or tweener, depending how you prefer your length.

"Spiderman" Poncho

These are the "Spiderman" beads I had to create myself, since none were to be found & bought.

This is the finished poncho. I think the ruffle came out extra cute looking.

I know the answer..........

Why BOYS don't do crafts. Oh not because they can't or don't want too. It's because they DON'T make Spider-man character beads! If they did, I bet a lot more boys would be calmly sitting around making really cool bracelets!

We have a birthday party to go to on Saturday for a little girl from church who is friends w/ our kids & we are friends w/ her parents. It's a Spider-man themed party. She loves Spiderman.

Still being a bit financially oppressed, I thought I would make her a poncho, which is not only inexpensive but also easy for me to do.Of course, I knew that not any ol' poncho would do. I don't think a Spiderman loving girl wants a frilly, ruffled, pink poncho! Of course not! Even I know that!

So I thought, I will make a Spiderman themed poncho. Red, white & blue w/ Spiderman Character beads. I naturally assumed since my dd has a bead set w/ Hello Kitty beads, that they must make Spiderman character beads too right? If nothing else than a Spiderman button? or scrapbook charm? or a spider button? or something?

Nope. Nada. Nothing! I think I should start my own company for unique items such as this. Ghoulish Crafts it could be called. Or Boy Beads. (not to be confused w/ Boy Bands!) lol

Whatever, I think I'm gonna have to crochet a spider applique somehow......hopefully I can figure that out since there are also NO Spiderman themed crochet patterns 'out there' either. Star wars sure, but no Spiderman! ugh!

Crochetting Connects....

I met a 'Bertha' yesterday. I have never met a 'Bertha' before.

I was sitting in the pediatrician's office, waiting for ds appt. I was crochetting like I always do when I have to wait somewhere. This woman walked out & when she saw me crochetting, she said, "Oh, do you know what '-14' means?"

She did NOT look like a person I would have EVER spoken to or met IRL. She was a bit 'rough' around the edges. (I sound stuck-up don't I?) I smiled & put on my 'friendly face'.

She was funny. I would explain how to do something & she would be confused, I would explain it again & again & finally she would repeat what I had just said as if it was her new idea & then 'get it'!

I was so excited to help her figure out her new pattern & she was so excited to be able to figure it out. She said she learned to crochet from someone 'on the bus'.

I can't imagine ever speaking to another person 'on the bus', (if I ever even rode the bus) much less learning something from someone 'on the bus'. LOL Being naturally shy, that would really be stretching the limits of my comfort zone!

I realize that when I have my crochet w/ me, it opens up avenues of communication that never would have been approached. I normally have @ least ONE stranger comment or start a conversation w/ me when I am waiting somewhere w/ my crochet.

Bertha was so grateful to have someone help her figure it out she even gave me a hug. I have NEVER in my life, hugged a stranger, much less most people I know. lol She apparently was not shy & was very outgoing. She was making scarves & beanies for her neices & nephews in.....I forgot where but somewhere back east & down south. LOL

I am not a missionary, nor do I ever 'witness' in the boldest sense of the word. But I think though there is a place for us shy ones still, loving others & seeing them as God sees them. I did not mention Jesus, I'll admit the thought never entered my mind. I think God might have been smiling on us yesterday anyway though. I was friendly, open & helpful to another human being on this planet. I bet Bertha has lots of friends & makes them wherever she goes & meeting HER brightened MY day!

Who would've of thought of the possibilities a ball of yarn & a hook would present?

This is how the poncho started out, when I fell in love w/ the colors! All I could think of the whole time I was crochetting it was: OCEAN!

NOW: the finished product! I decided to try a diagonal beaded fringe this time. I think it looks good on. I still have to create the tie @ the top but that's a cinch to finish off.
What do YOU think?

Patriotic Poncho

Isn't this yarn just fabulous?
I couldn't resist creating this poncho for my DD to wear for the 4th.
I made 3 rows of DC up top instead of my usual 2.
It allows for more head room to get it on.
I think it could fit a girl up to size 10, depending how she preferred the length, long or to the elbow.

Like my sheet? lol

Confessions of a Yarn Addict

Ok, I admit it: My name is KT & I am addicted to YARN!

Are you happy now?

This is the same way I used to feel about books @ the library.
I walk into the yarn department & my body tingles w/ delight as I see shelves & shelves neatly stocked w/ skeins & skiens of colorful yarn just waiting, practically begging, to be adopted & created into something beautiful & useful.

HOW can I resist?

Even in my darkest hour w/ NO $$$, I pass by & reach out 'just to touch' the soft acrylics & baby cottons!

I can't help it! It's not my fault. I know mom's get the brunt of our blame for everything but this time it's TRUE! AND it's even HEREDITARY! It was MOTHER who introduced me to the wonderful world of crochet! AND grandma always had balls of yarn she was unraveling! IT was inevitable!

Darn that 'Gorgeous Baby Blankets' pattern book! Darn it all!

IT doesn't matter that I have a tall & attractive basket already FILLED w/ unraveled skeins. It doesn't matter that I currently have 3 (ok maybe 5) UNfinished projects lying around. I know I can get them done, I just KNOW I can!

The new seasonal variegated skeins call to me, w/ their tantalizingly bright summery shades. Patterns & visions of ocean inspired colors beckon me in my sleep. And what's a girl to do when she finds bags of beads that match PERFECTLY to her skein?

Can anyone blame me?

Oh I hope I NEVER find the cure! bruhahahahahah!
