Domestic Diva

This is how it started: A reversable halter dress, bought a few seasons ago, that wouldn't fit me anymore, even if I was desperate! lol
I removed the side seams so that only the front panels were left. Here you can see the reverse print. Everything is still intact up top.

This is the unattached back. I cut pieces off of each side to make ties that will be sewn into the remade side seams of my finished 'project'.

Voila'!
My new APRON! Isn't it cute & sexy & sooooo NOT Betty Crocker? lol
I love it & have been wearing it ALL day. I have a much better attitude w/ this on. I actually WANT to clean. It's ALL about attitude, that's why.

The inspiration for this project.

More Frogs

I finally made the matching pants to go w/ the Frog dress & a shirt. I did not add ruffles to the bottom as I initially wanted. It was more work than I was willing to do. This fabric has tiny green frogs & the complimentary solid blue w/ tiny blue polka dots.
The pants are kinda messed up @ the top. Somehow I twisted the edging & I have not fixed it yet. No hurry since it is under the shirt (or dress) & does not show. I needed to add that extra piece because they were too short waisted (crack when she bent over!)
The pants were too narrow to get up @ first. I did something wrong. So I added a small triangle piece to the front & back center seam & then it fit perfect.
I am glad to be finsished w/ it though so I can start working on my next project w/ brighter fabric.

Cotton Candy Poncho

This is the poncho I made this past weekend for L to wear w/ her Easter dress. It looks slightly peach in the picture but it is actually pink w/ bits of yellow variegated.

It was a bit puffy yarn, thick & cozy. I needed to use a larger hook w/ it & that caused the neck to be way too large. I only had 1 skein & was afraid I would run out before it was finished.

So when it seemed like it could barely pass for 'long enough', I tied it off & went back to the neck. I was too far along when I realized it to unravel the whole thing.

I single crochetted every other stich @ the top, causing it to gather. I did the same thing for a second row & that made it way too small. I undid that row & sc each sc for 4 stiches then skipped 1 sc. That seemed to then work perfectly.

I then went back to the bottom & added one more row around. Perfect. I've never done that to the neck before & I really like it. It gave it some visual interest & fit really well.

A little LATE!

This a bit belated...I am hesitant to post pix here. (you can click on the individual pix to see a larger version) These were from this past Halloween. I wanted us ALL to be Wizard of Oz themed. DH was going to be the Lion & I wanted to be the Wicked Witch. Well, H ended up working & I did not have time to make anything for myself. So I cut off the head of a lion costume my littles had, threw on a brown t-shirt & voila'! lol
A friend gave me the Dorothy dress but her ruby slippers were no where to be found. So we took L's pair of Mary Janes, covered them w/ glue & red glitter. They were perfect!
S's scare crow costume came out the best. I used raffia for the hay. I was initially thinking the scarecrow had a straw hat, I don't know why, I've seen the movie darned near a hundred times. I looked @ a pattern @ Walmart then chose the fabric. I did not buy the pattern, just looked @ the picture & put the movie on for inspiration.
The tin man was the hardest fabric to find. I nearly gave up, when I accidently spyed the silver vinyl @ Joann's. It was %50 off too, nothing like waiting till the last minute. It was not that easy to sew but we finagled it enough. We spray painted the funnel & some dishwashing gloves silver. Then I hot-glued the funnel to the hood I created. Again, I did not use a pattern. DS was SO sweaty in that thing, poor guy. His hands looked as if he had been in a bath for hours. Vinyl is not a material you really want to spend hours in. lol
That's our dog MinMay, she played the part of Toto, no costume really needed for her. :o)
The church had that giant canvas background for something else & it was obviously the perfect accompaniment. They did a 'trunk-r-treat' this year & you had to decorate your car or have a theme. I threw the Kansas wheat field over the side of our car & again: voila'! I played the soundtrack during the evening too.
I like to go w/ a theme our entire family can be a part of...so for next year, I'm thinking, maybe, Peter Pan? Not sure. L would make an adorable Tinker Bell, I could be Wendy, DH, Cap'n Hook....not sure oldest would want to be Pan though. ROFL!
Even though it gets totally crazy & I get a bit frazzled, I just LOVE the whole homemade costume thing! I LOVE it!
